Before you start

Make sure the following are in place. If any are missing, the add-in will not appear.

  • Harvey licence. Harvey is licensed by IT and assigned after you complete the mandatory AI Foundations training.
  • Harvey Users group membership. The Word and Outlook add-ins are enabled automatically through your membership of the Harvey Users group in Entra ID. No packaging or manual install is required.
  • Maddocks single sign-on. Harvey uses Maddocks SSO, so there is no separate Harvey password.
  • Word and Outlook open on a firm-managed device and signed in to your Maddocks account.

Step 1 - Open the Harvey add-in in Word

  1. Close Word completely and reopen it. A newly enabled add-in only appears after a restart.
  2. Open the document you want to work on, or a blank document.
  3. On the Home tab of the ribbon, look for the Harvey button.
  4. Select Harvey. The Harvey pane opens on the right-hand side of the document.
  5. If you are prompted to sign in, follow Step 3.

Step 2 - Open the Harvey add-in in Outlook

  1. Close Outlook completely and reopen it.
  2. Open an email, or start a new message.
  3. Look for Harvey on the ribbon. If it is not visible, select the More options (...) menu on the message and look for Harvey under Apps or Add-ins.
  4. Select Harvey. The Harvey pane opens beside the message.

Step 3 - Sign in

Harvey uses Maddocks single sign-on, so there is no separate Harvey password to remember. You will normally only need to sign in once per application.

  1. In the Harvey pane, choose to continue with your Maddocks (work) account, and enter your Maddocks email address if prompted.
  2. You are returned to the Harvey pane, signed in and ready to work.

If the Harvey add-in does not appear

There is nothing to install from the Office add-ins store, and you should not try to add Harvey yourself. A missing add-in almost always means provisioning has not finished synchronising.

  1. Confirm you have completed AI Foundations training and that a Harvey licence has been assigned to you.
  2. Close and reopen Word or Outlook, as the add-in only appears after a restart.
  3. Check whether you can sign in to Harvey in the browser at app.harvey.ai. If you cannot, the issue is your licence or provisioning rather than the add-in.
  4. If it is still missing, contact the IT Helpdesk and ask them to confirm your membership of the Harvey Users group in Entra ID and that SCIM provisioning has synchronised.
